The Secret Origin of NEON THE UNKNOWN!

UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS #5 (March 2008) featured the long-neglected return of the 1940s great (?): NEON THE UNKNOWN!!! Although he was re-imagined. He looked very different than he did back in the day:
In UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS #6 (April 2008) they retold his secret origin.
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray; Art by Renato Arlem.

Now let's take a look back at Neon's original secret origin, along with his first appearance, from HIT COMICS #1 (October 1940). Unfortunately, it's scanned from microfiche, but you take what you can get!
Written by S. M. Iger; Art by Alex Blum.

They actually remained pretty true. Although they did take the liberty of adding scantily-clad wimmenz into the mix. And left out the scantily-clad savages.

  1. And left out the scantily-clad savages.

Probably because that part... I wouldn't call it "racist" per se, but boy did it have unfortunate implications.

  2. Lmao impications? Like, what? That Neon was gay? So what if he was, Hooded Justice from Watchmen was gay and he's the effin' man! He wooped The Comedian's raping ass!
