Happy Halloween!! FRANKENSTEIN meets Doctor Devil!!!

It's not Halloween with out a little Frankenstein!!!

Frankenstein ("Although Frankenstein is the name of the monster's creator, the creation itself has become known as Frankenstein") finds himself in Hell and teams up with an old Black Owl villain, Doctor Devil!! He'll grant you three wishes if you pull on his tail...

I'm not touching that one.

DR. FROST and the Kidnapping Ring!!

From The Golden Age Hero Directory: Hailing from the great arctic north, Doctor Frost can fire beams of cold from his hands and envelop himself in a sheath of ice so thick that it can withstand strong explosions. But he doesn't exclusively rely on his cold powers; he is a good scrapper in his own right. However, the good doctor isn't invincible; a powerful blow to the head can knock him out.

Dr. Frost debuted in Prize Comics #7 (December 1940) and appeared in every issue through #34 (September 1943), at which point he faded into obscurity.

YANK and DOODLE vs the sinister Limping Man!

Yank and Doodle appeared in PRIZE COMICS #13-68 (Aug 1941-Feb/Mar 1948).

Twins Rick and Dick Walters weren't old enough to join the Army, so they decided to become superheroes. Apparently, they also had super-strength and invulnerability when they were near each other, but that doesn't seem to play much in this story.

I'm not sure which was which. Wikipedia says Rick was Yank and Dick was Doodle. International Hero says it was the other way around. Toonopedia and Public Domain Super Heroes don't even bother.

The GREEN KNIGHT vs the Vampire! -plus-
The Rebirth of FRANKENSTEIN's Monster!

Today were doing a double again. Partially because the first story is kinda cheese-tastic, and partially because the second story has nothing even resembling a super hero in it. But, dang, you can't have Halloween without Frankenstein!!

From the cut and color-scheme of his costume to his bow-and-arrow motif, Green Knight looks like a Green Arrow rip-off. But he debuted just one month after Ollie Queen premiered in MORE FUN COMICS #73 (November 1941)!

Green Knight got his start in DYNAMIC COMICS #2 (December 1941) and wrapped up his career in DYNAMIC COMICS #3 (February 1942).

Those last couple panels are all kinds of "what th- huh?" He says "We'll fire the old trap!" Which to me seems barely English. Then, the panel where he's "firing the old trap" hardly looks like anything; whether it's the art of the coloring...I just don't see a trap being fired. Finally, in the last panel, Dale says "Gosh, they did'nt [sic] even let me thank them!" Meanwhile, Green Knight is barely two feet away talking to her!!! Oh my...

Frankenstein's Monster has a checkered past -- made more interesting by the fact that all of his appearances published by Prize were from the same creator; Dick Briefer. He debuted as, well, a monster in PRIZE COMICS #7 (December 1940). By 1944 he was battling Nazis, as all good comic heroes were doing at the time. Before the year was out, his adventures were played strictly for laughs, sharing wacky adventures with vampires and ghouls. The comedy carried over into his own series; FRANKENSTEIN #1-17
(Summer 1945-January 1949). He continued to appear in PRIZE COMICS through the final issue, #68 (February 1948).

In the early 1950s, horror comics were getting huge. Prize decided to go for a piece of the pie and Dick Briefer brought back Frankenstein's Monster as, well, a monster. The new, original monster's adventures ran in FRANKENSTEIN #18-33 (March 1952-October 1954).

GREEN LAMA and the Prize Fighters!

Although PROJECT: SUPERPOWERS shows Green Lama running around in the 40s with a bunch of other super heroes, he never actually met them back then. Mostly because they were all published by different companies.
But he was involved in a very-brief team-up with his co-stars in PRIZE COMICS.
Along with Green Lama, PRIZE featured the super heroes Black Owl, Yank & Doodle and Dr. Frost; the funny-cartoon characters General and the Corporal; and the monster of Frankenstein.
In PRIZE COMICS #24 (October 1942), Dick Briefer (writer/artist of Frankenstein) decided to gather the heroic cast of characters from PRIZE together and pit them against Frankenstein (why he included General and the Corporal is a mystery lost to time). It was an 8-page story that didn't feature a lot of organized teamwork. And despite the final panel, they never returned; at least not as a team. This was their one and only get-together, and it wasn't even deemed important enough to receive a mention on the cover! Definitely not a threat to the popularity of the Justice Society!
Without further ado, it's Frankenstein vs. the PRIZE Fighters!
